Any time that I find a good sale on meat, I buy a lot and load up my freezer with it. I just got back from my local farm market. They had a wonderful sale going on! Ground pork was only $1.89 a pound and ground beef was only $2.99 a pound.
This is the best way to freeze ground meat! It hardly takes up any room in the freezer. Plus it defrosts so much faster when it is frozen this way. Here's how...
The best way to freeze ground meat:
Measure out your meat into one pound sections.
Place the meat into a food saver bag. Or if you do not have a vacuum sealer, place the meat into a Ziploc freezer bag.
If you have a vacuum sealer, use it to pull out the excess air and seal. If you are using a Ziploc freezer bag, squeeze out all of the air and seal.
Repeat until you are done.
Use the palm in your hand and flatten the ground meat as flat as you can.
Now you can easily stack these in your freezer and it won't take up as much space.
I found some more room in our stacked freezer! I am going back to the farm market tomorrow to buy some more! We can never have too much ground beef or ground pork in this house of hungry boys!
