Air Fryer Cheese Curds for Poutine

Reminiscing about our road trip to Nova Scotia two summers ago has made me crave our very favorite Canadian dish - Poutine! Comfort food on a plate! For those not familiar with poutine, it is a plate of hot french fries topped with brown gravy and cheese curds. We fell in love with this dish and had it almost every day of our trip around 4:00 p.m. After a long day of hiking, Poutine hit the spot. And of course a Canadian beer too! So yummy!

I decided to make my boys night and make poutine for dinner!! Instead of deep frying the cheese curds, I am going to air fry them. That makes the poutine "healthy", right?! Well okay...I will make a salad too.

Air Fried Cheese Curds for Poutine

Ingredients:

Bag of frozen french fries

Jar of beef gravy

Fresh cracked pepper

12 oz. cheese curds

2 eggs, beaten

2 tbsp milk

1 cup flour

1/4 tsp kosher salt

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp pepper

Olive oil spray

  1. Cook the frozen french fries according to directions. Since I was using the air fryer for the cheese curds, I cooked mine in the oven.

  2. Mix the egg and milk in a shallow dish.

  3. Mix the flour, salt, pepper and garlic salt in another shallow dish.

  4. Spray a sheet of parchment paper with olive oil spray.

  5. In batches, take the cheese curds and toss them into the egg and milk mixture.

  6. Then toss them in the flour mixture. Shake off excess flour and place on the parchment paper. Repeat until they are all coated.

  7. Spray the flour covered cheese curds with olive oil spray.

  8. Line your air fryer tray with parchment paper and place the cheese curds on the tray. Spread them out as they will melt down as they cook.

  9. Cook in the air fryer at 425 degrees for 4 to 6 minutes, until they are golden and melted.

  10. Warm up the gravy in a saucepan with lots of fresh cracked pepper.

  11. On a platter, place a layer of cooked French fries and top with hot brown beef gravy and gooey cheese curds.

Enjoy this amazing Canadian comfort food dish! There is something so perfect about this delicious combination!

Needless to say, I absolutely made my boys night! Isn't this every growing teenage boys dream dinner?!
